Breast Lift

Women who are happy with their breast size, but feel their breasts are droopy will benefit from a breast lift. During the breast lift procedure, the excess breast skin is removed and the skin envelope is tailored to create a round, lifted, youthful breast. Lifting and reshaping the natural breast tissue will restore breast fullness and fill out a flat upper breast.

Time, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, heredity, any of these factors can contribute to sagging breasts. Droopy breasts occur when the breast skin envelope is too large relative to the amount of breast tissue. Some women have naturally droopy breasts, while others develop droopy breasts after pregnancy or weight loss. Women with excessively low, droopy breasts may experience neck and upper back pain.

If there is a limited amount of breast tissue, an breast augmentation can be done in conjunction with the breast lift.

The tradeoff in a breast lift is the possibility of visible scarring. In order to change the shape of the breast, it is necessary to place incisions. The length and types of incisions necessary for your breast lift are determined by one's anatomy: the amount of excess skin and the amount of breast volume. Three types of incisions are commonly made: around the areola, a vertical incision from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease, and underneath the breast along the crease. Scars from the incisions will fade over time, but will not disappear entirely. Every attempt is made to place incisions discretely so they are not visible in clothing or bathing suits.

The breast lift procedure

The breast lift is an outpatient procedure. During the breast lift procedure, the excess breast skin is removed and the skin envelope is tailored to create a round, lifted, youthful breast. Only incisions that are necessary to reshape the breast are made.

Breast lifts should be considered by women who do not plan to have future pregnancies, and who do not intend to lose significant weight, as this could reverse the improvement that a breast lift offers. Although it is possible, a breast lift typically will not affect breast sensation or function.
