As we age, our skin loses elasticity and our face loses fat. Things start to sag and we develop wrinkles and folds in predictable places: the corners of our mouth, from our mouths down to our chin, between the cheek and mouth. We lose volume in and around our lips, making our lips look thinner. These folds and wrinkles can be corrected with Juvederm, a soft injectable gel that smoothens out wrinkles and restores volume to areas that are sunken. Juvederm is injected into the skin and the superficial fat just below the skin. It is done as an office procedure by Dr. Ma. The effect is immediate, there is minimal to no recovery. Other than minor bruising or swelling, there is essentially no recovery. As with all injectable fillers, Juvederm is temporary, typically lasting 3-5 months.
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a protein that is naturally produced throughout our bodies which gives structure, texture and shape to our skin. Hyaluronic Acid is also naturally produced in our bodies. It is a natural sugar that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin and giving it volume. Our hyaluronic acid production slows with age. Hylaform® products work similarly to your natural hyuluronic acid, filling moderate to more severe wrinkles.
