Liposuction

Diet and fitness are essential for a healthy body and lifestyle. But even diet and exercise cannot always eliminate excess fatty deposits which can distort the shape of our bodies. Liposuction reveals our naturally smooth, shapely body contour by eliminating these excess fatty deposits.

The body sculpting procedures performed by Dr. Ma can restore the balance to your body by removing the areas of disproportionate fat and improve your naturally beautiful shape. Using the most up-to-date technology, we offer the least invasive procedures to give you optimal results. Body contouring procedures are very commonly performed, and the results can be seen almost immediately. We want you to look as good as you feel, and recover speedily to return to your active life.

Liposuction offers minimal scarring and a relatively quick recovery. The most common areas for liposuction are: abdomen, hips (muffin top), outer thighs (saddle bags). Other areas that can be treated are the neck, upper outer arms, and inner thighs. Liposuction effectively removes extra fat, creating an immediate improvement in one's contour and shape.

The new body proportions created by liposuction are permanent. After liposuction, the areas that were previously disproportionate, will no longer be so. If weight is gained after liposuction, the fat will distribute evenly according to your new balanced body proportions. Whereas before liposuction, the previously disproportionate areas would be magnified by weight gain, the new balance of your body after liposuction will be maintained, even with weight gain.

Liposuction has the most popular cosmetic procedure in the country for years. The success of the procedure and the relative non invasivness, short recovery make it an attractive option for many women. Particularly if you have experienced changes in your body following pregnancy, when weight is gained that can be difficult to lose, liposuction offers an attractive option. It is relatively non invasive, requiring only a few small incisions. The recovery is moderate, with the typical patient feeling well after 7-10 days.

Skin elasticity, muscle tone and weight are taken into consideration when contemplating liposuction. The best candidates for this procedure are patients with excess fat deposits in specific areas of their body, with an otherwise healthy body.

Liposuction is not a weight reduction technique and it should not be done to treat obesity. Liposuction removes inches, not pounds.

The procedure

Liposuction is an outpatient procedure which is done at the surgicenter. Dr. Ma utilizes the Vaser LipoSelection® system for liposuction procedures. The Vaser® procedure uses a patented innovative ultrasound technology to very efficiently and precisely loosen and remove unwanted fat. The Vaser® system minimizes tissue and nerve and blood vessel trauma, resulting in far less pain, bruising and discomfort than traditional liposuction, and a faster recovery. This procedure also allows Dr. Ma greater precision in sculpting even the most delicate areas such as neck and inner thighs.

A small incision is made near the area where the fat is to be removed, a small tube is inserted and liposuction solution is gently infiltrated. An ultrasound pass liquifies the fat. The fat is then gently suctioned out. Dr. Ma utilizes the most current techniques available to maximize safety and effectiveness.

Because liposuction is a relatively non-invasive procedure, the recovery is also relatively easy. For the first 5-7 days, there will be minor bruising which will resolve with time. Pain medications are typically taken for 3-7 days after surgery. It is important to listen to your body and tailor your activity level. Gentle, around the house activity is fine, but active exercise should be delayed for 2-4 weeks after surgery.
